Extending Gunas to Time

Jai Gurudev…

Thought it is worth sharing the timing aspect (after achieving a regularity first) – more appropriate time for maximum beneficial impact of sadhanas. A Day can be divided into three consituent time zones:

1. Satvic time 4 a.m. to 8a.m. and 4p.m.to 8p.m.

2. Rajasic time 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (day)

3. Tamasic time 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. (night)

Any sadhanas (including prayers/worships) practiced at the Satvic time extends maximum benefits to the sadhak and hence many routines practiced by a lot of people almost invariably falls into the Satvic time. Even the most auspicious time – Brahma Muhurtam is around 2 hours before sunrise falls in Satvic time zone. This is the reason why our Acharyas suggest early morning hours or evenings for our sadhana.

Satvic time activities should aid and prepare us to meet the requirement of Rajasic time, which is the time for action (and thus most of us would be at office). Tamasic time is the rest time where we should desist from performing any sadhanas (except maybe the best sadhana of all – sleeping)

PS: Waiting for a day when can I do my Sadhanas on a regular basis at Satvic times 😦
