The next milestone for our Sabarimala Pilgrimage after all the digital chaos out of the way (read the experience clicking the link) and before we set out on our Pilgrimage was the Annual Ayyappa Deeparadhana, Padi Puja, and Bhajan Sandhya. When we were navigating absolute madness of digital trek for this year’s Sabarimala pilgrimage, scrambling for Virtual Q coupons at midnight and fighting for Sannidhanam room bookings, we knew universe was testing our ability to surrender. We had braced ourselves to embrace storm.
But nothing prepared us for how beautifully that chaotic digital scramble would dissolve into pure divine ecstasy during our 4th Annual Ayyappa Deeparadhana, Padi Puja, and Bhajan Sandhya. By absolute grace of Lord Hariharaputra, our annual ritual found its perfect anchor on June 7th, 2026, at Santhosh Shanbhag Swami’s home.
Overcoming Elements
Leading up to weekend, clouds hung low over Bengaluru and weather forecasts aggressively predicted heavy downpours. Collective anxiety began to creep into our messaging groups and me along with Santhosh Swami and others preparing for the same at the Venue.
But devotion has its own meteorology. Our collective Sankalpa and prayers won. Bhagwan Varuna decided to shower his blessings by staying away, completely clearing path. What followed was evening that shattered every single expectation we had built over last three rocking years. From very first note struck, energy at the venue scaled heights we had never imagined.
Echo of Forty Years
For me personally, sharing floor and singing Ayyappa Bhajans alongside Madhu Swami (my Brother) for fourth consecutive year was deeply emotional. As our voices synchronized in praise of Bhagawan, my mind flooded with memories of our growing up years at humble Lakkasandra Ayyappa Bhajana Mandali. Watching that small mandali transform over forty long years into majestic Laljinagar Ayyappa Temple is a privilege. Seeing that exact same spark of raw, uncompromised devotion burning so brightly today in our own living rooms is nothing short of divine blessing.
As always, DaMaKis team of which I am a miniscule part, just like everyone else, worked their absolute magic. They elevated entire evening, bringing flawless level of execution, coordination, and spiritual vibrance that gripped every participant.
Decoding Rituals
Behind grand visual spectacle of Deeparadhana and Padi Puja lies profound psychological and spiritual reality that hit us all hard.
- Deeparadhana: As sacred flames were waved and our collective voices echoed Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa, burning camphor became mirror. It symbolized total dissolution of our heavy, everyday egos, leaving behind nothing but pure, radiant devotion.
- Padi Puja: Worshiping 18 holy steps was powerful, visceral reminder of our internal climb. By lighting lamps on each step, we symbolically prayed to conquer our five senses, internal vices like anger, pride, and ego, three gunas, and darkness of ignorance. It is step by step march toward ultimate truth, Tat Tvam Asi.
Flow of Sampradaya Bhajans
Entire musical flow of the evening perfectly followed our traditional Ayyappa Bhajan Sampradaya sequence. We started with traditional invocations to Ganesha, Maa Saraswati/Sharada, Guru, Shiva, and Muruga, Rama and Krishna to set pure spiritual foundation. Momentum gradually built as we transitioned into high energy songs dedicated to Bhagwan Ayyappa, capturing raw spirit of the hills.
Pinnacle of devotion was reached during powerful Padi Puja and Deeparadhana songs where every single voice in the room joined in absolute unison. Finally, the evening concluded beautifully with soothing and meditative Harivarasanam, bringing peaceful and divine silence to the space.Power of Sangha
Bhajan Sandhya is never about lead singers, it is entirely about congregation. I am immensely grateful to each of our 47 pilgrims, their beautiful families, and all Bhaktas who joined us. Your loud chanting, clapping, and infectious, high-octane energy made this night unforgettable. You brought method to our madness.
May Swami Ayyappa bless Santhosh Swami’s home, Madhu Swami, DaMaKis team, and every single one of our families with robust health, happiness, and unwavering faith. The next highlight was delicious and sumptuous Prasada which served as a dinner to sign off the evening.
We successfully anchored rituals. Now, with our Irumudi preparations swinging into full gear and our hearts fully charged, we look forward to scaling physical and spiritual heights of Sabarimala together.
🕉 Swamiye Sharanam Ayyappa! ️🙏
